United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, will deliver remarks to promote the Millennium Development Goals at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York City on Saturday 28 September, 2013. UN Messenger of Peace Stevie Wonder will introduce the Secretary-General to an audience of 60,000 with over 15 million people watching live around the world.
"I look forward to joining Stevie Wonder and thousands of other good friends of the United Nations at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park. I hope you will all join that event. We will raise our voices for action against poverty – the number one struggle of our time," the UN Secretary-General announced at his press briefing to raise the curtain on the opening of the 68th session of the General Assembly, on 17 September, 2013.
The Global Citizen Festival is a gathering of world leaders, celebrities and musicians calling for an end to extreme poverty by 2030. The Festival will feature performances by UN Messenger of Peace, Stevie Wonder, as well as Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys and John Mayer.
