The film “Resolution” focuses on the efforts of Margot Wallström, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, to raise the issue of rape being used as a strategic weapon of war to the top of the agenda at the UN Security Council and thereby make the plight of the women an international peace and security issue.
The film´s title “Resolution” refers to the efforts of Wallström to develop and push through UN Security Council Resolution 1960, which provides the UN with the powers to hunt down and prosecute the perpetrators of sexual violence and end the cycle of impunity.
Ms. Wallström and Marika Griehsel, the director and producer of "Resolution", participated in a panel discussion after the screening in Brussels with
Afsané Bassir-Pour, the director of UNRIC Director, who moderated the discussion.
Ms. Griehsel explained her motivations for doing the film in an interview with In Focus:
The Brussels based United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe - UNRIC provides information on UN activities to the countries of the region. It also provides liaison with institutions of the European Union in the field of information. Its outreach activities extend to all segments of society and joint campaigns, projects and events are organized with partners including the EU, governments, the media, NGOs, schools and local authorities.
