Lessons from Rwanda: The United Nations and the Prevention of Genocide
Lessons from Rwanda: The United Nations and the Prevention of Genocide, an information and educational outreach programme, has launched a new website. The programme, established by General Assembly resolution 60/225, aims to “mobilize civil society for Rwanda genocide victim remembrance and education in order to help prevent future acts of genocide”. The site includes a variety of types of content, including key documents, audio-visual resources, and a discussion guide.
UN News Centre – redesigned website
The UN News Centre has redesigned its website. While most of the content is the same, the Resources section has useful links to peacekeeping and political mission websites and other UN system news pages. The “What, When” page includes links to the Journal, press releases by principle organs, Secretary-General's schedule, and News Conferences.
Peace & Security 1540 Committee website
The Security Council Committee established pursuant to Resolution 1540 (2004) has a new website. Resolution 1540 (2004) imposes binding obligations on all States to establish domestic controls to prevent the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, and their means of delivery, including by establishing appropriate controls over related materials. It also encourages enhanced international cooperation on such efforts, in accord with and promoting universal adherence to existing international non proliferation treaties. The website includes a legislative database with links to the original texts of national laws, ordinances, decrees and decisions related to activities addressed in the resolution. The national reports to the Committee are also listed on the new website.
Partnership on Electoral Assistance (EC-UNDP)
On this new website you will be able to find historical background about the EC-UNDP partnership, precise information about the EC-UNDP approaches to electoral assistance culminated with the joint adoption of the "Electoral Cycle Approach" and details of the activities carried out within the Joint Task Force. In addition to that your will have the possibility to find and download all the operational tools, handbooks and publications necessary for a better understanding and better implementation of electoral assistance projects managed by UNDP with EC contributions. The site will be frequently updated also with contributions coming from EC Delegations, UNDP Country Offices and electoral experts working within UNDP-EC projects.

A new report of the Secretary-General provides an update on Peacekeeping Best Practices policy and impacts (A/62/593). The report describes the methods and tools used to identify, collect, and share the work of mission staff around the world and describes the system implemented by the peacekeeping departments. According to the report, "In modern peacekeeping, support is no longer measurable solely in terms of the timely provision of people, funds and materiel. Today, it also includes the capacity to apply institutional knowledge to help solve new challenges and avoid any recurrence of problems of the past."
UNAMID becomes active
The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) formally took over from the African Union Mission in the Sudan (AMIS) on 31 December 2007. At full strength, the new mission will be the UN’s largest peacekeeping operation, with some 20,000 troops and more than 6,000 police and civilian staff.
Economic & Social Development Climate Action
Climate Action (e-book) is an international communication platform established by Sustainable Development International in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to educate businesses, governments and NGOs as to what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The publication and supporting website (http://www.climateactionprogramme.org/
) will assist institutional investors in analysing and comparing companies that are responding to the business risks and opportunities resulting from global warming.
Determination of Fundamental Datasets for Africa: Geoinformation in Socio-Economic Development
The report - published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) - is defining fundamental geospatial datasets for Africa. It's the first attempt to provide a continental common definition of what constitutes a minimally necessary core of geospatial data and information products to which policy makers can add other sectoral datasets to ensure geographic consistency in making decisions on socio-economic development issues.
Global Compact Local Networks Report
The UN Global Compact has launched a survey of Global Compact Local Networks, Local Network Report: Deepening the Engagement of Participants at the Local Level. The Global Compact is a framework for businesses committed to aligning their operations and strategies with principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption; local networks assist in rooting the Global Compact within different national and cultural contexts, and provide support to companies in their efforts to integrate the Global Compact into their business operations and strategies. The report presents a detailed analysis of 90 emerging and existing networks and showcases numerous examples of network activities from all regions of the world.
ICT Competency Standards for Teachers (UNESCO)
UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has issued new Information Communication Technology Competency Standards for Teachers. The standards aim to "help educational policy-makers and curriculum developers identify the skills teachers need to harness technology in the service of education."

Five measures were proposed : "The Blue Paper"- to increase the number of opium-free provinces in Afghanistan; "The Green Paper" - to strengthen cross-border counter-narcotics cooperation; "The Yellow Paper" - to secure Central Asia's borders through intelligence cooperation and border management; "The Red Paper" - to reduce the smuggling of precursor chemicals into Afghanistan; and "The Purple Paper" - to improve security around the Caspian Sea.
State of Food and Agriculture 2007 (FAO report)
The State of Food and Agriculture 2007 has been released by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The report noted that carefully targeted payments to farmers could serve as an approach to protect the environment and to address growing concerns about climate change, biodiversity loss and water supply.
UNAIDS Web site
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) unveiled its new look design web site in December 2007. The new site include many rich new features including a live Cosponsor newsfeed, a new Knowledge Centre which houses all UNAIDS key data and resources and a new-look publications section and multimedia centre housing video, audio and photographic materials and improved navigation menu.
World Bank Group - Year in Review 2007
The review covers the work of the Bank in 2007 in areas such as development assistance, climate change, agriculture, finance, governance, health, gender and education.

World Youth Report 2007

The report examines the challenges and opportunities existing for the young people around the world and provides a regional overview summarizing the major youth development trends in the priority areas of the World Programme of Action for Youth, and explores major issues of concern including employment, education, health, poverty and violence.
Human Rights OHCHR - Strategic Management Plan 2008-2009
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published its Strategic Management Plan for 2008-2009. The plan outlines the strategic priorities of the OHCHR, covers the work programme of the Office in the field and its budget and funding requirements.
