The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) is organizing an international conference in London on 13 October. The conference, which has been organized following a call from Finnish Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign Ministry for input from civil society on the issue of nuclear weapons, is drawing together anti-nuclear activists from Britain and the Middle East to discuss input to the UN conference on a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East this December.
The conference will be hosted by the University College London. Speakers include Finnish Ambassador Pekka Huhtaniemi, Jeremy Corbyn, Caroline Lucas, Leanne Wood and experts and activists from Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Syria and Bahrain.
This December, heads of state will assemble in Finland for a UN conference on a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. This conference is one of many following a call from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2010 for the number of nuclear-weapon-free zones to multiply and ultimately span the globe.
