We also work to ensure that stateless people are granted a nationality. We work in over 130 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions.<\/p>\n<p>The Protection Unit for Belgium and Luxembourg seeks a Community-Based Protection intern for a full-time six-month internship. The intern will contribute to the Refugee Committee project (RC), a pilot project implemented in the context of the UNHCR Community-Based Protection (CBP) investments in Belgium. The key objective is to establish refugee collective structures of representation and establish formal consultations with local authorities. Since 2019, a total of 6 RCs have been established by the CBP unit (Umbrella-RC, LGBTIQ+, Syrian, Iraqi, Afghan and Women committees). These refugee committees will promote local integration efforts made by refugees and municipalities administration and NGO\u2019s first respondents. This project through a consultative approach will also target refugees and refugees-led organisations keen to occupy the participation spaces for citizenry as well as inclusion in the Belgian public and administrative spheres<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we offer<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A full-time six-month internship, from 4 May to 30 October 2021.<\/li>\n<li>The intern will receive a Food and Local Transportation Allowance (FLTA), up to USD 1,000 per month, payable in local currency. The FLTA is provided to non-sponsored interns only.<\/li>\n<li>In cases where a sponsored intern receives funding (less than the amount of allowance described above) from the sponsoring institution or another sponsor, UNHCR will pay the difference between this amount and the above allowance, if any.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with a UN agency<\/li>\n<li>Work in a dynamic, international environment<\/li>\n<li>Learning from UNHCR Senior field staff about refugees and Community-Based Protection practices and policies in one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world<\/li>\n<li>Work directly with refugee communities and their integration services providers, key institutional stakeholders in Belgium.<\/li>\n<li>Opportunity to use languages (English, French, Dutch, Arabic, Pashto, Dari and Spanish).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>General description of internship<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the coordination of the Umbrella Refugee committee and the national Refugee committees<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the preparation of refugee community briefings sessions and meetings with academia and other project stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the refugee community briefings<\/li>\n<li>Participate in outreach, support liaison activities and the establishment of formal consultations between refugees, refugees\u2019 associations, municipal administrations, NGO\u2019s and services providers<\/li>\n<li>Act as a focal point for refugee women mobilisation and outreach<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate e-meetings with refugee committees\u2019 stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate training sessions dates and contents between training providers and refugee committees\u2019 members<\/li>\n<li>Draft sitreps, minutes of meetings, briefing notes, talking points and other documents for internal and external use<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the identification of suppliers and in the organisation of UNHCR events and liaise with the administrative unit<\/li>\n<li>Translation duties as required during interactions with refugees<\/li>\n<li>Support upon request the Unit covering Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands to work on specific tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requisite educational and administrative criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate\/undergraduate school programme, preferably in law, social sciences, political sciences and\/or international relations;<\/li>\n<li>Have an excellent command of written and spoken English, French and Dutch<\/li>\n<li>A very good knowledge of Arabic or Spanish is considered an asset.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of previous experience or a strong interest in refugee community services matters, migration or human rights are appreciated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants should submit their letter of motivation (maximum 1 page) and CV to belbrhr@unhcr.org with \u2018CBP internship_Applicant\u2019s SURNAME\u2019 in the subject.
