UN-Habitat has launched its call for nominations for the 2024 round of the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award<\/a>. Initiated in\u00a01989<\/a>, the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award recognizes individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions in the field of urban development, including improvement of the quality of urban life and provision of adequate, affordable, and accessible housing for all.<\/p>\n

Nominations for the award should come from third parties only (no self-nominations) before the deadline of 17 May 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For over 30 years, the award has recognized 192 initiatives from individuals or entities worldwide. Previous winners include Fukuoka city in Japan, French firm Veolia Environment, Rwanda\u2019s capital city Kigali, Habitat for Humanity International, the URBAN Intergroup at the European Parliament, and Australian non-profit Wintringham Specialist Aged Care.<\/p>\n

The Executive Director of UN-Habitat will select up to five winners following recommendations by a panel of experts and leaders in sustainable urbanization. The winners will receive the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award \u2013 a plaque engraved with the winner\u2019s name \u2013 at the global celebration of World Habitat Day in Quer\u00e9taro City, Mexico, on 7 October 2024.<\/p>\n

In selecting the winners, UN-Habitat will consider best practices, initiatives, and innovative solutions contributing to the achievement of\u00a0Sustainable Development Goal 11<\/a>\u00a0on sustainable cities and communities. Special attention will be given to how initiatives, practices, or individuals align with the topic of World Habitat Day 2024 of \u201cEngaging youth to create a better urban future,\u201d which will explore how new generations can be engaged in planning their urban present and future through participatory processes and local leadership opportunities.<\/p>\n

The UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award nominees will be notified about the outcome of the selection from 15 July 2024 onwards.<\/p>\n
