\"LisbonSmall Island Developing States<\/strong> (SIDS) control some 30% of all oceans and seas through their Exclusive Economic Zones. Their economies and livelihoods are heavily reliant on the ocean.<\/p>\n

But rising sea levels are threatening the very existence of some SIDS<\/strong>. A single weather event could wipe away decades of development gains in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n

In this episode, Tishka Francis<\/strong>, Head of the SIDS Unit at the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries<\/strong>, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), shares how SIDS are facing many challenges, but are also full of opportunities.<\/p>\n

At the upcoming UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon<\/strong>, Tishka Francis will be calling for greater support and partnerships for these \u201cstewards of vast and important ocean spaces<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n
