In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on and hold consultations on the Middle East (Syria).

At 10:00 a.m. in the General Assembly Hall, the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women will begin and will go on until 23 March.

Also at 10:00 a.m. in the Trusteeship Council, the Intergovernmental conference and its preparatory process to adopt a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration will take place.

In Geneva, at 11:30 a.m. in Room III, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) will have a briefing on the report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the 37th session of the Human Right Council. The speaker will be Tomas Ojea Quintana, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

At 2:30 p.m. in Room XIX, in the framework of the TOGETHER campaign, the United Nations Information Service is organizing a literary encounter (Rencontre littéraire) on migration between students from the Lycée international de Ferney-Voltaire (France) and four authors invited for their literary engagement on the theme of migration: André Bucher (Fée d’hiver), Delphine Coulin (Une fille dans la jungle), Jean-Pascal Collégia (Afghanistan-Kosovo, parcours de deux adolescents exilés en quête de liberté), Emmanuel Ruben (La ligne des glaces).

At 3:15 p.m. in Room III, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) will have a briefing on the Interim Report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar. The speakers will be: Marzuki Darusman, Chair of the Fact-Finding Mission, Radhika Coomaraswamy, Expert and Christopher Dominic Sidoti, Expert.

At 4:00 p.m. in Room III, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) will have a briefing on the situation of human rights in Myanmar. The speaker will be Yanghee Lee, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar.

Tuesday, 13 March

In the morning, the Security Council will hold consultations on the 751/1907 Committee (Somalia/Eritrea).

At 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room 5, the Peacebuilding Commission will take place.

At 11:00 a.m., in S-237, there will be a press briefing sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations on CSW 2018, with the topic ‘Arab Women’s experiences’.

Wednesday, 14 March

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on and hold consultations on the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the 1591 Committee concerning the Sudan.

At 11:30 a.m., in S-237, there will be a briefing by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the newly released IPU report on Women in parliament in 2017.  Speakers will be: Ms. Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Member of the Senate of Mexico and Ms. Margaret Mensah-Williams, President of the IPU Bureau of Women Parliamentarians and Chairperson of the National Council of Namibia.

In Geneva, at 6:45 p.m. at the Grütli Cinemas, Ciné-ONU will be screening three documentaries (“Bahaali”, “Sound of silence”, “Transgender in Pakistan”) produced by Afghan and Pakistani filmmakers, in the framework of the Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Caroline Vuillemin, General-Director of Fondation Hirondelle; Kamal Siddiqi, Director of the Center for Excellence in Journalism in Karachi, and Vittorio Cammarota, Senior Public Information at the UN Department for Public Information.

Thursday, 15 March

In the morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). It will also be briefed on and hold consultations on the Middle East (Syria).

The guests at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Jose Antonio Ocampo, Chair of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) and be Prof. Diane Elson, member of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP).

In Geneva at 8:00 p.m. at the Centre socioculturel de l’Union syndicale vaudoise, Lausanne (av. Jean-Jacques Mercier 3), Ciné-ONU will screen three documentaries (“Bahaali”, “Sound of silence”, “Transgender in Pakistan”) produced by Afghan and Pakistani filmmakers, in the framework of the Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights. At 11:00 a.m., in S-237, there will be a press briefing by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) on the release of the “World Urbanization Prospects: the 2018 Revision”.
