Saturday, 10 November

Today is the World Science Day for Peace and Development.

The Secretary-General will be traveling to Paris over the weekend.

Sunday, 11 November

In Paris, the Secretary-General will take part in the ceremony for Armistice Day, which this year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. In the afternoon, he will also give the keynote speech at the first Paris Peace Forum on multilateralism, which is being hosted by the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

Monday, 12 November

While in Paris, the Secretary-General will have bilateral meetings with President Macron, as well as Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, who is also attending the Peace Forum.

The Secretary-General will be flying back to New York in the afternoon.

In New York, at 10:00 a.m., the Peacebuilding Commission will hold the Annual Session “Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace in the Sahel region.”

Tuesday, 13 November

In the morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). It will also be briefed on the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

At 10 a.m. in Conference Room 2 there will be a Joint Meeting of ECOSOC and the Peacebuilding Commission – “Linkages between Climate Change and Challenges to Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace in the Sahel” (DESA Contact: Emanuela Calabrini,  Questo indirizzo e-mail è protetto dallo spam bot. In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

At 1:15 p.m. in Conference Room 11, there will be a briefing by the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for International Migration on logistical and organizational matters for the Marrakech Conference on 10 and 11 December 2018 organized by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for International Migration.

At 3 p.m., in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, there will be a special meeting on “Pathways to resilience in climate-affected Small Island Developing States - A Forward-Looking Resilience Building Agenda: Promises, results and next steps” (DESA Contact: Sibel Selcuk,  Questo indirizzo e-mail è protetto dallo spam bot. In Geneva, at 09:45 a.m. in Room III, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will brief on efforts and challenges to address statelessness in today’s world, marking this November the 4th anniversary of the global #IBELONG campaign. The speaker will be Volker Türk, Assistant High Commissioner (Protection).

At 12:15 p.m. in Press Room 1, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will provide an update on the humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe. The speaker will be Bishow Parajuli, UN Resident Coordinator in Zimbabwe.

Wednesday, 14 November

Today is World Diabetes Day.

In New York, the Security Council is expected to adopt resolutions on Somalia (SEMG) and the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed on the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

At 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room F, there will be an event entitled “Leadership and Conflict Resolution: Leading Self and Leading Others” co-organized by UNITAR and Columbia Law School.

Thursday, 15 November

Today is World Philosophy Day.

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on peace and security in Africa.

The guest at the noon briefing today will be Ms. Nihal Saad, Spokesperson for the High-Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).

In Geneva, at 1:30 p.m. in Room III, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA) will brief on its work, achievements and challenges in 2018 and beyond. The speaker will be Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, UNRWA Commissioner-General.

Friday, 16 November

Today is the International Day for Tolerance.

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on South Sudan.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East (Yemen).

The UN Department of Public Information, in collaboration with YouTube, will hold an event to mark the International Day for Tolerance, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber. There will be a screening of videos from YouTube’s 2018 Creators for Change Impact Project. Four of the creators and a representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will participate in a discussion with students. The event will also feature a live hip hop performance by one of the creators, L-FRESH The LION, in observance of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
