Today is the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime and International Anti-Corruption Day

Monday, 10 December

Today is Human Rights Day.

Today and tomorrow, the Secretary-General will be in Marrakech, Morocco, to attend the Intergovernmental Conference to adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

At 11:30 a.m. in Conference Room 6, there will be an event entitled “Event entitled “The Seventieth Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Marking achievements, rethinking challenges” organized by the Permanent Mission of Armenia.

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. He will brief reporters on the situation in Yemen.

At 1:15 p.m. in Conference Room 12, there will be an event entitled “Event entitled “Equality, Dignity and Justice for all: Legal Discourses on Decriminalizing Homosexuality” on the occasion of the Seventieth Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, organized by the Permanent Mission of India.

At 3:00 p.m. in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, a panel discussion will take place to mark Human Right Day and the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The discussion will focus on the relevance of the Declaration to today’s cutting-edge human rights issues of inequality, climate change and new technologies. It will feature Andrew Gilmour, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights; Nadia Daar, and expert on socio-economic inequality and head of Oxfam International’s Washington DC Office; Brett Solomon, a digital rights expert and Executive Director of Access Now; and Alex Loznak, a climate change student activist.

Tuesday, 11 December

Today is International Mountain Day.

In the morning, the Security Council will hold a debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT).

In the afternoon, the Security Council will have a troop-contributing country meeting on the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

Wednesday, 12 December

Today is International Day of Neutrality and International Universal Health Coverage Day

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS).

At 10:00 a.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, the 2018 Global Humanitarian Policy Forum will begin. This event is organized by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold a debate on the United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH).

Thursday, 13 December

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA)/ Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East (Syria).

From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., there will be a special meeting of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) to review the Madrid Guiding Principles on foreign terrorist fighters. (Open to accredited media, including photographers; webcast available).

At 1:15 p.m. in Conference Room 8, there will be a special event on Innovative solutions for addressing recidivism through entrepreneurship, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

In Katowice, Poland, at 3:00 p.m. on the margins of COP24 in the SDG Pavilion, there will be an event entitled Advancing forest-based climate action: interlinkages between Nationally-determined Contributions and Voluntary National Contributions (DESA Contact: Ryo Nakamura,  Questo indirizzo e-mail è protetto dallo spam bot. In Geneva, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Palais des Nations, Room XX (E Building, 3rd floor), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights will present the event “My Human Rights in 180 seconds” as part of the celebration of Human Rights Day. Students aged 12-19 will present what human rights mean to them and how they stand up for them in their daily lives. The High Commissioner will also engage with young human rights defenders through a round table discussion.

Friday, 14 December

In the morning, the Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). It will also be briefed on Sudan ICC.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
