In Geneva, in the Salle des Pas Perdus at the Palais des Nations, a photo exhibition will open on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Association of Accredited Correspondents to the United Nations. The exhibition features texts, objects, photos and film clips that take you back to some of the major events that shaped modern history and the journalists who covered them. The exhibition will be on display until 28 February.

Tuesday, 19 February

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East (Yemen).

In the afternoon, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on Burundi.

The guest at the Noon Briefing will be Mr. Gordon Brown, United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education.

At 3:00 p.m. in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, there will be an informal meeting of the plenary on the theme “From global issues to local priorities: The role of cities in the global agenda, including cities for sustainable development, food security, nutrition and climate change.”

Also at 3:00 p.m. in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, there will be an event entitled “Promoting Interfaith Pluralism and Understanding for Prevention”, in commemoration of

World Interfaith Harmony Week co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Jordan and Spain, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).

Today is World Day of Social Justice .

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed on the Security Council mission. It will also be briefed and hold consultations on the Middle East.

At 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room 5, there will be an event entitled “Code 8.7: Using Computational Research and Artificial Intelligence to End Modern Slavery” organized by the United Nations University (UNU).

At 10:00 a.m. in the General Assembly Hall, the 67th plenary meeting will discuss the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

In Geneva at 3:00 p.m. in Press Room 1, the World Health Organization (WHO) will launch its report on global health financing. The speaker will be Dr. Agnes Soucat, Director, Health Systems Governance and Financing, WHO.

Thursday, 21 February

Today is International Mother Language Day.

In the morning, the Security Council will be briefed and hold consultations on the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the Central African Republic sanctions.

At 9:45 a.m. in the Trusteeship Council the 2019 Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations entitled “Emerging challenges to multilateralism: a parliamentary response” will take place. The event is co-organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Office of the President of the General Assembly (PGA). The event will continue until Friday.

In the afternoon, the Security Council will hold consultations on peace and security in Africa.

At 5:00 p.m. in Conference Room 2, there will be an event to observe International Mother Language Day co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Bangladesh, Guatemala, Mozambique, Nigeria and Papua New Guinea, in collaboration with the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC), the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) and the New York Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In Geneva, a number of activities will be held to celebrate International Day of Mother Languages. The Mother Languages Café and the Quiz taking place at the Bar Serpent will be open to all badge holders who have access to UNOG. The Library Talk will also be open to the public upon registration.
