We know that the ocean contains unparalleled beauty – but we don’t always see what is below the surface. Yet, we know the ecosystem is under threat from harmful human activities, including climate change and pollution. The Ocean Conference this June will focus on the need to sustainably use and manage the ocean and its resources, urging and inspiring the world to take action to ensure a healthy ocean for future generations.

A healthy ocean means a healthy planet, and we can’t imagine a world without all the life it holds – from the smallest organisms to the largest whales.

The United Nations are calling for illustrations of what the ocean means to you! From the coral to the fish; small fishing communities to marine industries; plastic pollution to conservation; sea-level rise to the marine science and innovation – the opportunity to use art and design to create awareness is endless. Share your vision and ideas. Your artwork may be used on UN social media accounts and web sites, accompanied by a social media post about the issue/s you are picturing leading up to the Ocean Conference and during the Ocean Conference. The United Nations reserves the right to select as many or as few artworks for display on UN social media as it deems appropriate. The United Nations will credit the owner of the artwork through the inclusion of the owner’s name, by way of their social media handle upon request, on the artwork, when displaying the artwork on UN social media. Selected artwork will be displayed with the hashtag #SaveOurOcean on various Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts of the UN.
