UN expert on international solidarity to visit Denmark and Greenland

The UN Independent Expert on human rights and international solidarity, Cecilia M Bailliet, will conduct an official visit to Denmark and Greenland from 8 to 18 April 2024.

 During her visit, Bailliet will assess how Denmark’s international cooperation and solidarity activities contribute to the promotion of human rights in the country and internationally. She will focus on the inclusion and participation of youth, indigenous peoples, women, minorities and refugees in solidarity actions and expressions to address challenges such as climate change and global inequality. She will also discuss the revised draft Declaration on the right to international solidarity with academics and other relevant actors.

 The expert will visit Copenhagen and Nuuk to meet with Government officials, civil society organisations, academics, members of the legislature, the judiciary, UN representatives, and diplomats.

The expert will present her final report to the Human Rights Council in June 2025.

Current mandate holder

Cecilia M. Bailliet assumed her functions as Independent Expert on human rights and international solidarity on 1 November 2023. Ms. Bailliet is Professor Dr. jur, Director of the Masters Program in International Law at the University of Oslo in Norway. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a combined J.D./M.A. (honours) degree from The George Washington University Law School and Elliott School of International Affairs (U.S.A). She received her Doctorate in law from the University of Oslo in Norway.
