On 22 November 2023, the Cities and Regions for Integration of Migrants network of the European Committee of the Regions will hold a seminar entitled “World Children’s Day: the role of local authorities in protecting and empowering migrant and refugee children.”

The seminar will take place on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, from 14:30 to 17:30 at the European Committee of the Regions, Rue Belliard 99-101, Brussels, room JDE 51. Online participation will be possible via Interactio.

Organised in close cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the seminar will focus on ensuring the necessary capacity-building and the exchange of best practices among cities and regions involved in child safeguard matters. The participants of the seminar will also share their expertise in the field and address the necessity of long-term solutions aimed at both – fostering more efficient collaboration in child protection measures, and also paving the way for more successful inclusion of vulnerable migrant and refugee children in the local communities.

By bringing together practitioners on the ground from local and regional administrations and the experts in this field, the seminar will present an unique opportunity of addressing the existing challenges, specific needs, and sharing valuable insights and recommendations on the aspects which have to be improved to successfully implement the requirements of child protection in the context of migration.

With a view of better protecting and promoting the rights of vulnerable children, this event will strive to set the basis for further structured cooperation between the cities and regions and the UNICEF experts in child protection and social inclusion matters.
