Crown Prince addressed Security Council in the run-up to Norway´s presidency

Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon addressed the Security Council and met with the UN Secretary General during a visit to UN Headquarters last week. Norway takes over the rotating Presidency of the Security Council next month.

The Crown Prince spoke on behalf of Norway on Protection of Education in Conflict.

„Norwegian development, human rights and humanitarian policies are based on the notion that equal access to quality education is a fundamental right,“ the Crown Prince said in a press statement. „The provision of education is both the responsibility of, and of great benefit to, states and communities. It is against this backdrop that Norway has brought the issue of protection of education to the Council.“

Crown Prince Haakon also met with UN Secretary General António Guterres accompanied by Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

Norway assumes the rotating presidency of the Security Council in January 2022. One of its priorities will be the theme women, peace and security

Both Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt will participated in and lead meetings during Norway´s presidency.
