The UN Trail in the Sonian Forest is a unique initiative designed to raise public awareness about the critical importance of preserving and restoring ecosystems to tackle global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
The trail highlights UNESCO's recognition of parts of the forest as a Natural World Heritage site, which ensures a higher level of
protection. As the only UNESCO-listed natural heritage site in Belgium, the Sonian Forest holds significant historical and ecological value. While the officially recognised reserves are not
located directly on the UN Trail, visitors can still experience one of the forest’s defining features: its impressive expanse of beech trees.
This project, the first of its kind in Belgium, was developed in collaboration with the UN, the Sonian Forest Foundation, and Brussels Environment.
