Gandhi film coverAs part of the “Geneva Peace Week“, Ciné-ONU, in collaboration with the Graduate Institute and the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in Geneva, revisited this movie classic starring Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley in the title role. Gandhi is the 1982 epic biographical film that dramatises the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the leader of India’s non-violent, non-cooperative independence movement against the United Kingdom’s rule of the country during the 20th century.

 

 

 

The screening was preceded by a panel debate, with:

  • Ambassador Ajit Kumar, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations in Geneva
  • Jean Fabre, former Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Programme in Geneva
  • Alaa Tartir, Postdoctoral researcher, Graduate Institute

The debate was moderated by Alessandra Vellucci, Director, United Nations Information Service
