Deadline: 12 October 2021

Once again, the United Nations is supporting the Mobile Film Festival, an international competition featuring one-minute films shot on mobile phones.  This year’s theme, “making peace with nature”, was inspired by a speech by UN Secretary General António Guterres.

” Making peace with nature is the defining task of the 21st century. It must be the top, top priority for everyone, everywhere,” the UN chief said in a State of the Planet address at Columbia University, New York, in January 2021.

In partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the 17th edition of the Mobile Film Festival is supported by a network of NGOs and international organizations committed to protecting the planet and fighting climate change.

The Festival is thus in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 13 which aims to urgently fight against climate change and its consequences.

The Festival will be associated this year with two of the United Nations main priorities during the next quarter; the World Week of Sustainable Development Goals (17-28 September 2021) where the Festival will be an official event, and the COP26 in Glasgow (31 October 31 to 12 November 2021) where the official selection of fifty films will be presented.

1 mobile, 1 minute, 1 film

Filmmakers are invited to create films in the unique format showcased by the Festival for the last 17 years: 1 Mobile, 1 Minute, 1 Film.

“By giving a voice to filmmakers from all geographical and cultural backgrounds, the Festival provides the opportunity to see strong, militant, creative films,” according to the press release inviting submissions.

“For 17 years, the Mobile Film Festival has defended the values of equality and discovery by eliminating economic constraints through the use of cell phones and free registration, while promoting the creativity of filmmakers, who must tell a story in one minute maximum.”
