‘A Turning Point for People and Planet’

Under the theme ‘A Turning Point for People and Planet’, the fifth SDG Global Festival of Action, powered by the UN SDG Action Campaign will take place on 25 and 26 March.

The Festival seeks to find new ways to inspire, mobilize and connect the global community to take action on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will be held in a virtual space with six different stages, featuring plenary sessions, interactive workshops, exhibits and performances and a space to connect with leaders, changemakers, activists, the private sector and more.

In order to access the full Festival programme, please visit globalfesitvalofaction.org. The main stage programme will also be streamed live in English only on UN WebTV and UN YouTube.

Among the key speakers and performers are:

  • Amina J Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary General
  • Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator
  • Eddie Ndopu, SDG Advocate
  • There will also be performances from Patti Smith, Yoko Ono and  B o m b a Estéreo.

For a complete list see the online programme.

For the first time there will also be a special programme curated and produced by UN agencies based in Japan, in collaboration with multi-sectoral partners, as part of a pilot integration of a spin-off Festival hub. With a keen focus on exchanging best practice and innovations between Japanese stakeholders and international experts, this novel track will take international insights to a local audience and connect local innovations with global participants and networks.

The SDG Global Festival of Action aims to highlight that 2021 must be a turning point for people and planet. COVID-19 has turned our life upside down, and it urges everyone to work together towards a better recovery, with the SDGs as the blueprint for transformative action. Centering on the concept of turning things around, the Festival will provoke debate and drive ideas and actions on four themes that will determine the pace of progress: we must #TurnItAround for climate action, gender equality, poverty and inequalities, and inclusive systems and sustainable finance.
