UNRWA, the UN Palestine refugee agency, has condemned the latest  “disinformation campaign” by Israel against the agency.

Israel has paid for commercial advertisement including billboards in several cities around the world and paid Google ads on multiple websites in an escalation of its disinformation campaign against UNRWA. TV4 and Expressen in Sweden, yesterday, removed an advertising critical of UNRWA.

Israel is publicly  calling for dismantling the Agency.

“This latest global effort by a UN member state to label a UN agency as a terror organisation may amount to hate speech using corporations that are supposed to promote commercial products,” UNRWA says in a statement.

Lifes in danger

UNRWA is currently the   largest humanitarian provider for people in Gaza living through an excruciating war.  In its statement the agency says that not only is this campaign creating immense reputational damage to UNRWA but also putting the lifes of staff members in danger.

“Those responsible for the spread of disinformation, including advertisement companies must stop and be held accountable. Regulations must be put in place to control the spread of such damaging and possibly dangerous messages, “ UNRWA says in its statement.

Since the war began, 251 UNRWA team members were killed in the war in Gaza. Two thirds of the UNRWA buildings in Gaza have been hit, many directly or several times.
