The UN Secretary-General to attend Stockholm+50

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres will arrive in Sweden on Wednesday 1 June for a two-day visit. Mr. Guterres will address the opening of Stockholm+50 Thursday 2 June.

The Secretary-General will meet Swedish  Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson Wednesday and hold a join-press encounter with her. He will also visit his predecessor Dag Hammarskjöld’s gravesite the same day.

On Thursday 2 June M. Guterres will deliver remarks at the formal opening of Stockholm+50 and attend a Commemorative moment of the Stockholm Conference 1972.

He will also have an audience with His Majesty the King of Sweden and Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess.

The Secretary-General will also have bilateral meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde and Minister for International Development Cooperation Ms Matilda Ernkrans. In addition, he will meet Stockholm+50 Youth Task Force and the Speaker and members of the Swedish parliament.

Co-hosted by Sweden and Kenya, Stockholm+50 will take place under the theme “a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity.”

The two-day meeting will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm – which marked a new era of global cooperation.
