Time to turn the tide – Tishka Francis

Lisbon Ocean Conference 2022Small Island Developing States (SIDS) control some 30% of all oceans and seas through their Exclusive Economic Zones. Their economies and livelihoods are heavily reliant on the ocean.

But rising sea levels are threatening the very existence of some SIDS. A single weather event could wipe away decades of development gains in a matter of minutes.

In this episode, Tishka Francis, Head of the SIDS Unit at the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), shares how SIDS are facing many challenges, but are also full of opportunities.

At the upcoming UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Tishka Francis will be calling for greater support and partnerships for these “stewards of vast and important ocean spaces”.
