Agency Overview

The only tripartite UN agency, since 1919 the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 Member States, to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes to advance social justice and promote decent work for all women and men. The ILO Office for the European Union and the Benelux countries (ILO-Brussels) represents the International Labour Organization on the one hand to the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) and on the other hand to the institutions of the European Union, in particular the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee, the Council of Ministers and the European Council.

Furthermore, ILO-Brussels maintains relationships and dialogue with other EU institutions and agencies, with social partners and with a number of important actors in civil society. It also participates in the work of the United Nations towards the EU.
