What is COVAX?

The COVID-19-pandemic is a global challenge. In response, the United Nations and its partners launched the COVAX Facility, the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history.

WHAT?

COVAX is the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, an innovative global collaboration aimed at accelerating production and equal access to COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines, including for the world’s poorest countries.

The UN-backed COVAX Facility aims to make two billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine available to countries participating in the Facility by the end of 2021, including at least 1.3 billion doses to lower-income economies.

HOW?

Through the COVAX partnership – between Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) – the different partners share their expertise and experience and have set up a unique vaccine distribution network. They are working hand in hand with producers and partners to counter vaccine nationalism and ensure a COVID-19 vaccine for everyone.
