The lockdown has challenged us all to adapt and innovate in so many ways.

Before COVID-19, the UN Global Compact had been planning our 20th anniversary Leaders Summit in the GA Hall and Javits Centre on 15-16 June.

Instead, we decided to go ahead with a virtual (online) Summit on Monday and Tuesday (15-16 June) and have seen it grow into something far bigger, more inclusive and more sustainable than any physical event.

We invite you and your colleagues to register here and see why I am so keen to share this story and event with you.  It’s free for UN staff on the left side and your trusted partners can register for free on the right using the discount code UNPARTNERS).

There are events in all your timezones too.

More than 12,000 people (mainly UN Global Compact participants) have already registered. The Secretary-General, PGA and the President of Ethiopia will kick off the Summit on Monday at 0800am (New York time) and for the next 26 hours the event will “chase the sun” around the world with sessions organised by our 60+ Local Networks before returning to New York for the Closing on Tuesday at 0900am by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the DSG who will preside as our Executive Director Lise Kingo hands over to our incoming ED Sanda Ojiambo.

If you look at the programme here you will see the 300 speakers include 30 CEOs, five Heads of State, more than a dozen UN agency principals (including Dr Tedros from WHO), Al Gore, Ban Ki-moon, Mark Carney, Paul Polman and the COP Champions Gonzalo Muñoz and Nigel Topping. Other Summit speakers include the heads of the Commonwealth, International Chamber of Commerce, NEPAD, International Trade Union Confederation, International Chamber of Shipping, and INSEAD.  Many live, some pre-recorded – see if you can spot the difference!

Under the theme Recover Better, Recover Stronger, Recover Together, the Summit provides a UN platform of platforms where leaders from business, civil society and the United Nations will be challenged to increase their ambition to achieve the SDGs and to tackle three global crises: COVID-19, climate change and inequality.

More than 20 UN entities will be showcasing their work in a virtual UN Pavilion and at 55 sessions (please see list of focal points attached in case you wish to get in touch with any of them) and there are even opportunities for networking too. Please do join if nothing more than to see what a UN event can look like in a COVID-19 world.
