24 September marks two years since the United Nations launched Youth2030 — the first ever UN Youth Strategy. By partnering closely with young people, the UN Youth Strategy aims to recognize the resilience of young people around the world, address their needs and empower them to achieve their full potential.
There is no shortage of examples of young people leading important, impactful movements around the world. That is why, together with Twitter, under the banner of #YouthLead, we have created the first ever Twitter emoji designed by young people, for young people.
Our vision for this hashtag and emoji is to provide a channel through which young people everywhere can share their views, and institutions like the UN can listen and amplify their voices and leadership on important issues.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT:
- Beginning at 6:00 am EDT on Thursday, 24 September, the official #YouthLead hashtag and emoji will be available in 19 languages (included at the end of this email).
- We would be pleased if you would join us by putting out a post tagging #YouthLead (in the language most relevant to you) on 24 September, using this as an opportunity to amplify your existing work to engage and support youth.
- On the same day, we will issue a pinned post on our Twitter feed, inviting youth and partners around the world to join the conversation. The prompt we are providing is “For me, when #YouthLead on ___ the 🌎 will ___ (fill in the blanks with your opinions!)” however we encourage you to use the hashtag in whatever context you feel is most relevant to your organization and your youth work.
