Oggi l’Alto Commissario per i Diritti Umani lancia lo “UN Human Rights Report 2019”, che presenta i risultati raggiunti lo scorso anno dall’Ufficio delle Nazioni Unite per i Diritti Umani, attraverso l’intenso lavoro dei suoi 1400 membri del personale basati nel quartier generale di Ginevra e nelle 84 stazioni sul campo sparse per il mondo.
Questi risultati sono stati raggiunti sotto significativi vincoli di budget. La crisi di liquidità che le Nazioni Unite si trovano ad affrontare ha portato ad ulteriori tagli di circa il 16% del nostro bilancio nel 2019 rispetto al 2018.
Sfortunatamente, anche le nostre entrate su base volontaria sono diminuite del 4,3% nel 2019 a paragone dell’anno precedente. Se la crisi finanziaria delle Nazioni Unite continuerà nel 2020, mentre la domanda per la nostra competenza e supporto continua a crescere, chiediamo agli Stati contributi volontari più flessibili, puntuali e prevedibili, per riuscire a fornire l’aiuto che ci si aspetta da noi.

The High Commissioner is launching the Report virtually to Member States and civil society today – 5 June, detailing the work of the UN Human Rights Office in 2019.

“With our assistance, fifteen national laws were adopted to combat discrimination in all forms.”
“We supported the development of the first system-wide United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy, which aims to bring about structural change in the organization. It is the first UN accountability framework that operates across all UN pillars, without distinction, including climate action initiatives.”
“As co-chair of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Task Team on “Leaving No One Behind, Human Rights and the Normative Agenda”, alongside the World Health Organization and UNESCO, my office actively contributed to the Secretary- General’s reform of the UN Development System.
We ensured that the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework had a strong normative and human rights foundation supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, especially as we enter the Decade of Action do deliver the Goals.”
