Within the framework of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) “Women in Chemistry” Project, funded by the European Union, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) are calling for women active in the chemical safety and security sector who can support the Institute in the identification of best practices on women’s engagement in this field.
In particular, through action-oriented research, UNICRI will be responsible for the identification of best practices in recruiting, training and promoting women in chemical safety and security. The findings of the research will be presented in a compendium of practical recommendations.
This initiative aims to promote the role of women in male-dominated areas, making progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls, and towards the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, which urges Member States to ensure increased representation of women in law enforcement, peacekeeping and military at all levels.
Selected women candidates will have the opportunity to join an expert network of “Women in Chemistry” (WIC) and exchange knowledge and expertise with their peers from many countries and at different stages of their academic and professional careers. In addition, selected candidates will have the opportunity to showcase their academic and professional contributions in the field of chemistry with the aim of potentially integrating their work as part of the best practices compendium to be published by the end of the project.
