KNOW-DRR Smart Phone Edutainment App

SourceUNESCO

“KNOW-DRR” Smartphone Edutainment application is an interactive tool for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for the educational community and students around the world.

Developed under a Japanese Funds-in-Trust Project on “Strengthening Disaster Prevention Approaches in Eastern Africa – STEDPEA”, the application builds students’ knowledge and skills in DRR. It enables them to analyze and monitor disaster risks, vulnerabilities, and capacities in their communities, to better protect themselves, and to share their informed views to influence disaster management governance and planning.

There are five levels with twenty questions per level. Questions have either multiple choice answers to select from, or True or False options. The player moves to the next question only when the correct answer is selected, that means all levels are automatically unlocked when the player gets a good score. There may also be instances when extra information is given for educational purposes.

The application contributes to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

It is free to use and is currently available in French and English. Other languages to come soon.

(can be accessed without the internet)

This Application was developed under technical cooperation and collaboration with UNDRR, AUC-DREA, ISC-ROA and AYAB-DRR. This application contributes to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, Priority -1 Understanding disaster risk.
