The Secretary-General Awards honour and recognize significant performance of UN Secretariat personnel and teams who go beyond the call of duty in the discharge of their duties or initiate and implement projects with great impact and innovative potential. Staff members are invited to nominate outstanding colleagues and their projects.
- Innovation and sustainability: Honouring an individual staff member or a team for improving the delivery of programmes or services, including improvements that helped the Organization respond to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic or ensured that the United Nations acts in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.
- Promoting diversity and inclusion: Honouring an individual staff member or a team for contributing to an organizational culture that promotes diversity and inclusion.
- Breaking the silos: Honouring a team for developing and implementing creative solutions through collaboration with multiple stakeholders across the Secretariat or the UN system.
- Fostering mental health: Honouring an individual staff member or a team for promoting well-being and mental health in the workplace.
