WHO/ECEH is the primary source of knowledge, technical expertise and normative guidance on environment and health in the WHO European Region. A special focus of the work of WHO/ECEH is its support to the European Environment and Health Process, kicked-off in 1989 in Frankfurt, Germany. As a centre of scientific excellence in this area, WHO/ECEH provides the Region’s 53 Member States with scientific valid evidence on environmental health risks and assists them in identifying and implementing policies to address priority issues. Key areas the Centre covers are air, noise and water quality, occupational health, health effects of climate change, physical and chemical hazards, and environmental health information and economics.
