Il Vesak, celebrato dai buddisti in tutto il mondo, commemora la nascita, l’illuminazione e la morte del Buddha. È un giorno di riflessione e compassione, in cui i fedeli si riuniscono nei templi per pregare, meditare e offrire doni ai bisognosi. È un momento di pace e rinnovamento spirituale, in cui si ricorda il messaggio di amore universale e compassione insegnato dal Buddha. Durante il Vesak, i buddisti riflettono sulla natura transitoria della vita e sull’importanza di vivere in armonia con gli altri e con il mondo che ci circonda. È un’occasione per promuovere la pace e la benevolenza in tutto il mondo. Di seguito il messaggio del Segretario Generale in occasione della Giornata del Vesak.

MESSAGE ON THE DAY OF VESAK

Today, Buddhists across the globe celebrate Vesak Day, which marks the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha.
Last October, I had the privilege of travelling to the Buddha’s birthplace of Lumbini, Nepal. This deeply inspiring visit re-affirmed my conviction that the Buddha’s timeless teachings of peace, compassion and service to others are the pathway to a better, more understanding and harmonious world for all.
Today and every day, let us be guided by the spirit of Vesak and by a renewed faith in what we can accomplish as a united human family.
Let’s work as one to build a more peaceful and sustainable future.
