Video Games

Video Games are not new to the United Nations, for over a decade the organisation has been involved in the industry, even going as far as creating its own games to reach out to citizens everywhere.

Played in moderation, video games can help with learning and have strong pedagogical properties. The use of games for teaching mathematics, sciences and the humanities is becoming part of the educational landscape.

Video Games also help tell stories, explain topics, and generally provide a better understanding of global issues.

Worldwide, over 2.3 billion people play video games, spending nearly $140 billion dollars on games annually. Harnessing even a small portion of this activity – in terms of funds, time and problem-solving
skills – can have a tremendous impact on the real world.
