Training Diplomats from the MENA region on UNIDO’s mandate and activities in partnership with Clingendael Institute

On 23 February 2024, a delegation of 18 diplomats from the MENA region were hosted by the UNIDO Brussels Office, as part of the diplomatic programme conducted by the Clingendael Institute. The diplomats received a warm welcome at the UN House in Brussels, followed by a welcoming address by Mr Christophe Yvetot. In his presentation, Mr Yvetot highlighted the SwitchMed initiative implemented by UNIDO and funded by the European Union which supports and connects stakeholders to scale up eco-social and eco innovations. The program supports policymakers, eco-innovative SMEs, industries, startups, and entrepreneurs in Southern Mediterranean countries. Ahmed F. Elfarra, Senior Programme Officer shared the Moustadama programme which aims to boost competitiveness in the industrial sector in Palestine through promoting and applying sustainable energy solutions. Following this Mr Victor Cobby, Project Chief Technical Advisor, discussed UNIDO project in Jordan focussed in creating jobs for youth and women through improving the business environment and SMEs competitiveness. The training centered on enhancing the diplomatic skills and acquainting the diplomats with UNIDO’s presence and involvement in the MENA region.
