UNIDO, the Government of Ukraine and the EU launch Industrial Diagnostic study to guide Ukraine’s Green Recovery

Brussels, Belgium – 21 February 2024 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization, in collaboration with the Government of Ukraine and the EU, was pleased to host the event “Rebuilding Ukraine’s Industry: Launch of the UNIDO Industrial Diagnostic Study” on 21 February, at the United Nations House in Brussels, Belgium. The launch event in Brussels served as a unique platform for key stakeholders from Ukraine, the EU, and UNIDO to discuss and strategize on the essential steps needed for the country’s future industrialization and green recovery. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in exchanges setting the stage for a collaborative effort towards rebuilding a resilient and sustainable industrial sector in Ukraine.

Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, voiced the necessity of this study: “With our new diagnostic study and green industrial recovery programme, UNIDO supports Ukraine’s economy to become more resilient.” He reminded the importance of coming together to create solutions, stating that UNIDO is “ready to partner with the EU to ensure a better future for Ukraine.”

Ms. Florika Fink-Hooijer, Director-General, Directorate-General for Environment, European Commission, said in her opening remarks, “The Industrial Diagnostic Study by UNIDO is a crucial step toward a green industrial recovery program for Ukraine. I welcome that this study underscores the need to transition Ukraine’s economy to a circular model—less resource use, less waste to handle, and the creation of new markets for recycling and reuse.”
