    Opening of the UN Campus in Bonn by Secretary General Kofi Annan and Chancellor Angela Merkel. The climate secretariat remains in House Carstanjen until the renovation of the old high-rise building has been completed. In October, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) advisory center for biodiversity and tourism for countries affected by the tsunami started its work in Bonn, and in 2010 it was transferred to the advisory center for tourism and biodiversity (closed in 2016).

    In the first half of the year, the International Program on the Social Dimension of Global Environmental Change (UNU-IHDP) and the Vice Rectorate of the United Nations University in Europe (UNU-ViE) join the UN campus. The program for capacity development within the framework of the United Nations Water Decade (UNW-DPC) opens in Bonn in August. The United Nations Platform for Space-Based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Measures (UNOOSA / UN-SPIDER) follows in October.

    Construction of an additional office building on the UN campus begins.
  • UNIDO-ITPO Germany opens
    The UN Organization for Industrial Development (UNIDO) opens an investment and technology promotion office in Germany.
  • COP23 in Bonn
    Bonn hosts the 23rd United Nations Climate Change Conference. Under the presidency of the Republic of Fiji, more than 20,000 delegates and other participants travel to Bonn to take part in the climate negotiations.
