    Opening of the UN Campus in Bonn by Secretary General Kofi Annan and Chancellor Angela Merkel. The climate secretariat remains in House Carstanjen until the renovation of the old high-rise building has been completed. In October, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) advisory center for biodiversity and tourism for countries affected by the tsunami started its work in Bonn, and in 2010 it was transferred to the advisory center for tourism and biodiversity (closed in 2016).

    Bonn hosts the 23rd United Nations Climate Change Conference. Under the presidency of the Republic of Fiji, more than 20,000 delegates and other participants travel to Bonn to take part in the climate negotiations.
